​Lives v livelihoods debate – the economist’s take

In a commentary, NTU Prof Euston Quah and University of Melbourne senior lecturer in economics Eik Swee wrote about the importance of striking a balance between the cost of saving lives and the cost to the economy of a prolonged shutdown, with Singapore gradually reopening its economy while controlling Covid-19 transmission. To this end, economists have much to contribute to the ongoing debate on saving lives or saving livelihoods, they wrote.
